Get a seemingly automatically generated message to the address listed in that press release, trying to sell me P.R. services. (The address appeared nowhere else.) I write back to the sender to complain, plus to the upstream providers (HOME.COM and DIGEX.NET, at the time). 1 August 2000: Sent another release via Business Wire, got an identical pitch (to a different, scraped address). Wrote to the sender to complaint: Sender responded, saying "tell me your email address and I'll take you off our list". I responded, saying why that wouldn't work, and urging them to change their practices. 11 January 2001: Received completely unsolicited ad from the same source, again trying to sell me P.R. services. Responded to the sender, but not the upstreams. 17 April 2001: Sent another release via Business Wire. Got another, identical pitch, to the scraped address. Complained to the upstreams (ICIX, ARCOR-IP, SAD-ONLINE). 16 May 2001: Received completely unsolicited ad from the same source, again trying to sell me P.R. services.
