Tom's biography or, "It all began in a plucky little 500-watt station in Fresno..." Other resources: Articles by my father I was born in Mount Kisco, New York, in May, 1968, the youngest of four children. Appropriately, my mother went into labor while watching "Mission: Impossible." I passed my entire childhood there (Mount Kisco, that is), except for one year the family spent in England when I was eight. As a youth I excelled in music, drama, math, photography, collecting things, computers, anxiety attacks, depression, obsessive behavior, low self-esteem, and getting beaten up by my peers. When I was 18, I went off to study composition at Oberlin Conservatory. After one year, I got a full scholarship to the College/Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and transferred there. I lasted all of seven months in Cincinnati before getting wanderlust: I dropped out, went to Florida to act (and serve food) in a dinner theater production of Fiddler on the Roof. The theater went out of business during the show's run. I spent the summer of 1988 doing technical theater at an amusement park between Buffalo and Rochester, with the stripper-like name of Darien Lake. Over the course of the summer, I made several life decisions, chief among them: To go back to school and learn how to debauch like any normal young adult, and To start a book. So back to Cincinnati I went, albeit on a smaller scholarship. And sho' nuff, the book was published by Times Change Press in 1990 and I graduated in 1991. I've lived in San Francisco since then, except for a six-months volunteer stint at a language association in The Netherlands. As adults' lives are nicely defined by what they do for work, I'll let my résumé pick up the tale.
